5 Basic First Aid Procedures That Will Get You Through Any Crisis

You’ve probably grown up knowing that it’s important to be prepared for anything. There are a number of medical emergencies where knowing basic first aid procedures can make a huge difference.

If you want to know how you can make yourself a helper when it comes to those emergencies, read on. In this guide, you can learn about five different ways to use basic first aid to give someone a leg up recovering from an accident.

Let’s dive in!

  1. Burns

Basic first aid procedures for burns is rather simple: remove the source of the burn immediately. Whether that’s a chemical burn, heat burn, or electric burn, get away from it.

That may mean unplugging something or running away from a fire, but most often, it means running the burned area under cool water. This removes any chemicals from the burn and starts to soothe it — don’t use ice!

Cover the area until you can see a medical professional and move on from there.

  1. Bites

Bug bites and other stings are usually no big deal, but it’s still helpful to know how to treat them, especially in the event that someone is allergic.

Where there are stingers, it’s important to remove the stinger with a fingernail or card. Then apply a cold pack, and use an EpiPen if needed before calling 911.

  1. Head Trauma

Head trauma can result in a mild or severe concussion, and any kind of TBI is something to take seriously. If someone suffers from head trauma, it’s important to monitor their behavior carefully.

If they seem “off” and struggle with their memory, never hesitate to link them to Urgent Care.

  1. Sprains

Sprains are common injuries because they can occur just about anywhere, from the park to the club. Thankfully, immediate treatment is fairly easy.

First, you need to stop using the suspected limb and get some ice on it. Making sure it’s elevated and taking some anti-inflammatory medicine will also make a big difference until you can see a doctor.

  1. CPR

Finally, there’s the famous CPR. Being CPR certified is a great job perk for a reason!

The best thing you can do is to find first aid and CPR certification course and register for it so that you can learn from the professionals. You don’t want to take any chances with doing it wrong; you might end up making a situation worse.

Thankfully, there are normally tons of classes being taught. It won’t be hard to find one!
