The high maintenance city is not so demanding when it comes to traveling with pets. Chicago is a large city not only for humans but also for animals. It’s not surprising to see people taking their dogs out for a walk in the park. Not just any ordinary park for children but a dog park! So if you were to visit Chicago due to work or some other reason it’s best to take your dog with you. Maybe the vacation you had been delaying for so long can happen now.
You should give Chicago a try as a vacation for many places there are to visit. Not sure Chicago is your or your dog’s cup of tea?
If there was ever a city in the USA made for dog lovers it was Chicago for all the right reasons.
White Sox Dog Day
Did you ever have a chance to visit a dog-friendly baseball game? It’s an unusual outing, but surely a popular one in Chicago especially if you are a dog owner. On your vacation, you can visit a game right? The excitement and atmosphere, it doesn’t make your dog anxious, then it’s all good to go. Of course, remember to bring dog lashes and waste bags (an obvious requirement).
A primary highlight of Chicago is Lake Michigan. And so comes the Lakefront Trail, with its shore that stretches up to 18 miles. Now with your dog, you can do a lot of recreational activities along the lake.
Dogs love to dig on the beach (it just comes naturally) and well, they can happily spend the time there. Dogs are allowed near Montrose. But too much sun is not too good for your dog either so it’s best to spend 2 hours at tops.
A four-mile pathway alongside the Chicago River on the Southside of the city is yet another perfect view. One might ask how many calories does a dog needs when on a vacation. Then do remember when you are on extracurricular like this give an extra 320 calories to your dog to maintain the energy for all the outdoor sightseeing you will be doing on foot (or paw!)
So once your dog has enough calories to burn after eating the yummiest treats, you need to go shopping.
It’s more of a family outing space. But if you and your pooch are two bachelors vacationing then no one’s stopping you from enjoying the freedom in Chicago. Your dog can walk leash-free (under supervision of course). To walk or run without a leash tagging behind the owners (no offense) is refreshing for dogs.
From shopping to eateries to rides there’s a lot going on here for everyone. You can take your dog on one of the architectural boat tours that depart from the Pier.
Harry Caray’s Tavern
You may have taken care of your pooch’s calories but Harry will take care of yours. One of the most popular restaurants on the Pier, you are allowed to bring your dog. You can try the food court for some more options to try.
Besides the Harry’s there are some other great dog-friendly restaurants in the neighborhood like Begyle Brewing Company and Parson’s Chicken and Fish.
Doggy Style Pet Shop
If you feel it’s too many outdoor activities then shopping might be a break you need from some hours away from the sun.
The shopping experience in every city in the US is different. With so many activities to do, you will find that the shopping spree to be a tad bit different here. When it comes to pets, you need to have the local experience with the Doggy Style Pet Shop for your furry friend. Then for yourself head towards Bloomingdale’s or Nordstrom.
Wiggly Field Dog Park
The name is cleverly named for a place where your furry friend can stretch and be leash-free for some good while.
The best part is your dog can socialize with other dogs on this vacation. You can have a quick chat with other dog owners and well, the Wiggle Field suits all, doesn’t it? Small dog breeds have a separate enclosure purely dedicated to them so that they are not bullied by larger breeds. This is extremely thoughtful.
Those who want to bring their dog for a walk and want to take a break can bring their dogs here. Which means so can you!
Chicago huh? Who knew, you could spend a good vacation with your dog in a big city with enough space? Turns out all’s well. Give this place a go and find out for yourself.
