Truckload Shipment

Full Truckload Shipment and Less Than Truckload Shipments

Anthony Seriously Trucking company is responsible for moving goods from one destination to another in the logistics industry. But there is a big difference between Full Truck Load (FTL) and Less Than Truckload (LTL). This blog post will give you all of the details on FTL vs. LTL shipment types.

Full Truck Load Shipping: This type of shipment means that your company has rented out a whole semi-truck load. The number of shipped items can vary from practically nothing to thousands depending on how much space is available.

Less Than Truckload Shipping: This type of shipment means that your company has rented out a portion of the truck to ship its items. The number of items being sent can vary from one or two up to hundreds, depending on how much space is left in the truck and what you’re shipping.

Full Truck Load (FTL) shipments generally fall into three distinct categories:

Less than Full Truckloads (LTL) – LTL carriers specialize in less-than-truckload Transportation– usually ranging from 15,000 lbs up to 40,000 lbs per load; however, there are some exceptions such as an occasional 50,000 pounds shipment.

Partial full loads (PFLs)- PFLs are pretty self-explanatory: a truckload carrier has pulled out part of their load, and you’ve been able to fill the gap with your items.

100% full trucks (100%)- The 100% full trucks (100%) is when there’s nothing else that can be put into that particular vehicle; again, these shipments would usually range anywhere from 20,000 lbs up to 45,000 lbs per single cargo van or flatbed trailer depending on what size they were carrying.

Seasonal, Promotional, and Dedicated Shipment Solutions

Seasonal Solutions: Seasonal solutions are typically used for companies that experience high sales volume during certain holidays, seasons, or weekends. For example, if you sell Halloween costumes and all of your sales happen within October, it would be best to ship these items in a shorter time frame, so they don’t sit around in warehouses until next year’s holiday season rolls around.

Promotional Solutions: The promotional solution is similar to seasonal shipping because it entails shortening delivery times; however, instead of using them just for one particular event or selling period like with seasonal shipments, this option helps promote faster deliveries on products that need immediate attention given their popularity (ex: limited edition toys).

Dedicated Shipment Solutions: Dedicated shipment solutions usually entail agreeing directly with the manufacturer to make a dedicated shipment of their product. This option is excellent for those who need their products delivered as soon as possible and want them sent directly from factory to customer without going through any other company in between.
