How Do I Setup Netgear Router Without WPS?

Setting up Netgear router with the press of WPS button allows you to connect your WiFi-enabled devices to your router’s WiFi and enjoy streaming internet with ease. But, what if the Netgear router or your WiFi-enabled devices does not support the WPS feature? Fret not! This article explains how to configure a Netgear router without using the WPS feature.

Steps to Setup Router Without WPS

Here’s how to configure a Netgear router without using WPS feature:

Let’s dive in!

Step 1: If your Netgear router is new, unbox it carefully and plug in into a working wall socket near to your existing modem. In case of old router, unplug it from its respective wall outlet and plug in near to modem. This process is only during the initial router configuration. After setting up Netgear router, you can place your devices at their intended location but in reach of each other.

Step 2: Now, power on your Netgear router. Insert the router’s power adapter into a working and fluctuation-free wall outlet.

Step 3: Thereafter, connect your Netgear router to modem using an Ethernet cable. You can connect your router and modem using a wireless source as well.  But, we suggest you go with wired connection in order to avoid IP not working issue.

Step 3: As soon as you are done with connecting your router and modem, open an internet browser of your choice. For this, you have to turn on a computer or laptop. Ensure that the web browser you are using is updated to the latest software version and doesn’t consist of junk files, cache, browsing history, etc.

Step 4: Now, access by typing the IP address in the browser URL bar. Make sure that you type the router’s default IP without making any typing errors. Once you are done, press the Enter key. In order to avoid login issues, ensure that you aren’t entering the router’s IP in the browser URL bar.

Step 5: You will be redirected to the router login window. Fill in the Netgear router login details carefully into the required fields and click on Log In.

Step 6: Now, navigate to the Settings page of your Netgear router.

Step 7: Follow the on-screen prompts and configure your Netgear router without using WPS feature with great ease.

That’s it! Your Netgear router is configured successfully. Now, you can unplug your Netgear device and plug it to the location of your choice. But, make sure that the location you choose for your Netgear router must be in reach of your modem and the area without WiFi.

Bonus: To get the most out of your Netgear router, it is suggested to update its firmware soon after setting it up. To update the firmware of your Netgear router, either access the router’s settings page using  IP or navigate to Netgear official site and follow the on-screen instructions.
