A bit more about color in general
You should know a bit more about color to choose a color scheme. There are three types of color.
Primary colors: there are three primary colors- Red, Yellow and Blue
Secondary colors: Mix blue and yellow to get green. This is what mixing two primary colors does. It gives you a secondary color.
Tertiary colors: It is advisable to mix a primary color with a secondary one. For instance yellow plus orange will give a tertiary yellow-orange. There can be red-orange, blue-purple, and yellow-green and so on.
Factors to consider while choosing website color schemes
The factors mainly depend on what product you are selling or how you want to sell yourself to the audience.
1. Consider your brand color
All your colors will depend on the color combinations of your brand logo and you can choose cheap domain name from godaddy. If you are starting out a new brand, it may be feasible to change your color combo.
However, if you have already started out, it is best to decide on the basis of your logo color. Whenever people visit your website, they should be able to align or connect your website with your brand.
Believe it or not, this increases your brand reputation.
2. Choose primary color scheme
Keeping your brand color in mind, it is time to choose the primary color.
The primary color decides how the audience feels about you. It hardly takes time for your audience to turn away if the color combination is not cosy. Too much red or green will only put your website in jeopardy.
If you are into organic or environmental stuff, your primary color should be green. If you are into finance, the color blue or green will be a great choice.
3. Choose secondary color scheme
The secondary color will only supplement the primary color. Due care has to be taken to mix two colors.
For instance, you would not mix green with orange. The company Dell has a great blue white combo, Mcdonalds has a red yellow mix, Cocacola is all red and white, KFC is red and so on.
The secondary color should elaborate on the purpose you are trying to convey!
4. Consider gender
It is not always necessary that you are targeting a particular gender. But, you must be aware of the colors loved by both men and women.
Not only this, but also you should be careful about the color you choose. Brown and orange are such colors that most men and women would not like.
Don’t get me wrong! Brown is the best color if you are selling chocolates!
Let me tell you a secret. Blue is the most preferred color for both genders!
5. Consider typeface color scheme
You can go for an easy choice and choose the most common color- black. However, do consider that pure black against white background can strain our eyes. It takes only a second for the visitor to turn away from your website.
You could use a softer grey tone or some grey shade for your typeface. There is not much room for experimentation here. You can try other colors if you want and see for yourself!
Now come up with a website color combo
You might have a question now.
- How much of the primary color should I use?
- How much of the secondary?
Whatever your primary color, you are going to fill up your website with more than 50% of this color. 60% would be a good percentage.
Your secondary color should have a percentage of anywhere between 30% to 35%. The balance space can be filled up with a color of your choice.
Do keep in mind that this is not a strict rule to be followed. You should definitely go for a trial and see for yourself how the color combo looks like. For instance, there could also be two primary colors. But, this would look a bit awkward, wouldn’t it?
