4 Reasons To Consider a Career In Disability Support

If you’re a people person and you really enjoy helping people and making a difference in the lives of others, you might be wondering what career path to choose. There are numerous jobs and careers that suit people of this persuasion but one that really stands out is a career in disability support.

This article is going to be taking a closer look at this career path and highlighting the reasons why it might be something for you to consider.

1 – No Two Days Will Be the Same

A career in disability support can be very diverse, which means no two days will likely be the same. You won’t grow bored because you’ll be working with a variety of different clients and at various locations.

Having a job that’s constantly stimulating is the goal of many workers. However, so many jobs out there are simply mundane and repetitious. Not so with a disability support worker career. Each day will offer new challenges and possibly new locations. You could be working in a hospital environment for a while, then assisting someone living with a disability within their own home.

2 – You’ll Be Making a Difference In Peoples’ Lives

If you get satisfaction from helping others improve their quality of life, then you’ll love a career in disability support, as that’s exactly what you’ll be doing on a daily basis.

Whether someone is recovering from an injury or is living with a permanent disability, the assistance and support you give to that individual are designed to make their life easier. You’ll also be helping them to improve their lifestyle through various measures to assist them in adapting to life with a disability.

It’s the type of job where you’ll likely make a lot of new friends and acquaintances, both with work colleagues and the people you are looking after.

3 – A Career In Disability Support Gives You a Good Income

As a disability support worker, you’re not going to be pulling in a doctor’s salary, but compared to some other careers, it does pay quite well and the more experience you gain, the higher the wage you could command.

If you’re just starting out, you can expect to earn roughly $56k per annum and, for the more experienced, upwards of $75k a year. It’s a challenging role, but one that comes with both financial and personal rewards.

4 – There Is Room for Career Advancement

If you start out as a disability support worker, it can become a stepping stone in your career pathway. With further study and experience, you could advance to other roles in the industry that command a higher salary, such as a therapist, care manager, social worker, case manager, and more.

As mentioned earlier, as a disability support worker, your job comes with a lot of variety and that’s also true of the various pathways you can pursue as you further your career.
