New World Faces Another Issue Yet Again

Amazon Game Studios can’t catch a break with the issues plaguing their game. This time around, it’s about bots.

You’d think the rain of issues in New World would finally let up, but instead, the players were met with a thunderstorm of it just shortly after facing a previous problem. Amazon Game Studios’ MMO has been plagued by many issues since the game launched, from simple exploits to annoying and repeated pauses in its economy due to the exorbitant amount of cheaters. So what’s the latest confounding issue, you ask? The answer is bots. It’s normal for decent-sized MMOs to have bots in their servers these days, it gets especially irritating when they’re hogging all the resources. Initially, our mindless friends focused their efforts on ore-mining and fishing–basically trying to farm New World items and materials. This is still largely the case, but they now seem to be branching out into other careers and astonishingly hitting high levels.

Stripping the World Bare

Numerous players in the New World’s subreddit and official forums are already complaining about bots that are endlessly mining for New World items like some sort of mindless colonizers. Fishing bots are specifically rampant, with some camping hotspots in Restless for weeks now. There are also bots farming leather, azoth water, and other materials. This results in the tanking of prices of the in-game resources, causing significant disruptions to New World’s economy as if it wasn’t in ruins enough. Heck, there was even a player that stated that bots were so prolific in their server, they’re artificially inflating server population numbers.

Demotivation

Bots are ruining the desire of players to get into New World. Not only are they hogging all the resources, but they’re also killing the market for epic materials. Player frustration at Amazon Game Studios’ apparent inaction to all of this is twofold. The rampant bots make it feel pointless to gather resources now, especially when prices are going through the floor. There’s also the fact that players have been consistently reporting what seems like obvious bots, but so far, nothing has been happening.

Bots plaguing MMORPGs isn’t a new occurrence, but when they get this out of hand, that’s when it starts to become a real pain. Collecting resources is especially vital in New World, but with numerous bots gathering them 24/7, it severely impacts everybody’s playing experience and has adverse effects on the in-game economy. With all of this happening, it’s understandable for some folks to get demotivated from booting up New World again.

Are Players Being Overdramatic?

Although you can’t blame them for whining about it, there are just some folks that tend to act like the sky is falling and the world is ending when these spikes happen. While there’s a possibility that New World turns out to have serious and long-term problems with bots, it’s still a little early to make that call. Dealing with scammers and bots of various stripes is simply a fact of life for any MMO, and New World is far from being the first to tackle or overcome this challenge.

Amazon Game Studios Has Spoken

On November 30, a spokesperson from Amazon Game Studios has given their statement regarding the seemingly unending number of bots running amuck in New World’s servers. According to the representative, Amazon is aware of the player reports concerning the increased bot activity in New World. Their team has already deployed the dedicated resources and tools to identify these bots and combat them. Committed to continuous improvement, Amazon Game Studios banned over 7,700 accounts for using bots just a day before the statement was released.

Amazon Faces Another Problem Yet Again

Whatever the reality or the outcome may be, Amazon Game Studios once again is in the position of having an in-game problem that New World’s community feels is not being dealt with adequately, nor are they treating it with the seriousness it deserves. Remember the recent duping glitch for New World gold that just happened not too long ago? Amazon took its sweet time in dealing with the issue., and while the developers retrospectively banned the players who took advantage of the glitch, they turned off the game’s entire economy while doing so. We’re not surprised if they plan to pull the same gag again, but there’s got to be some other solution that doesn’t involve killing New World’s in-game economy; it’s like beating a dead horse at this point.
