Going To Turkey

Going To Turkey? Here’s How To Prepare For A Relaxing Experience

When planning any trip there are many considerations to take into account, and travelling to Turkey is no different. If you are planning a trip to Turkey there are some things you need to be aware of before booking your ticket. Here are some things to take into account before travelling to Turkey that will allow you to enjoy the experience and have a relaxing and successful trip.

1.  Turkey Requires Visas from Most Countries

Turkey requires Visas for access from many countries, including Canada and the United States, so you must apply for a visa to enter Turkey. The good thing about Turkish visas is they generally don’t take very long. So you aren’t looking at a three-month process to get your visa, but rather an hour or two. You can use Turkey e-visa application services to get your visa quickly. However, due to spotty wifi and other concerns, it is a good idea to apply for your visa a few days before your scheduled flight so that you have access to it immediately upon arrival.

2.  Turkey is a Large Country

When packing for your trip it is important to check the weather in the region of the country you are visiting. Turkey spans two continents and has very diverse weather, depending on where you are going. If you are visiting multiple locations within the country, then you may have to pack for different climates. Ensuring you have the right clothing packed will make your trip much more enjoyable, so do a bit of research ahead of time to avoid any issues with the clothing you pack.

3.  English is Not Widely Spoken

It can come as a surprise for many travellers that English is not widely spoken in Turkey. English speakers often assume they will be able to find at least someone who speaks their language, but this is not the case in Turkey. It is advisable to learn at least a few Turkish words before your vacation or ensure you have an active international plan so that you can access translators in a pinch. When going to Turkey don’t assume there will be someone who understands English, as this is not the case.

4.  Electricity Plugs

North American travellers can sometimes be shocked that electricity connections abroad are not the same as back home. You will need a travel adapter for a basic European outlet, and while you may be able to find them once you have touched down it is not guaranteed. You don’t want to get caught with a dead battery, especially when your visa will most likely be stored on your phone, so plan ahead of time to avoid this inconvenient possibility.

While there are many considerations to take into place, these are some of the most important ones, that will allow you to relax and enjoy your trip, and avoid any problems entering the country. Turkey is a beautiful country and just waiting for you to arrive and explore it!
