The Only Camp Supplies List You Need

Camping is fun, and spending time in the great outdoors is great for your health. Being in natural environments lowers your blood pressure and reduces stress and anxiety. If you’ve never been camping, it’s time you tried!

If you’re a first-time camper, getting your supplies together can be a bit overwhelming. Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered!

Use this camp supplies list to get ready for your next camping trip.

A Word of Advice

Before you take off into the woods on any trip, do your research! Camping is a great outdoor adventure but it can take a bad turn for the unprepared.

Never hesitate to cancel your trip if the weather goes south or you’re not feeling well. Make sure a few people at home know your plans in detail so they can seek help if you don’t return home on time.

It’s when you’re not prepared that things tend to go wrong, so stick with the Boy and Girl Scout motto: be prepared. That’s where this list comes in!

Tent

Sleeping under the stars is awesome but it’s not always possible. Rain, cold, and wild animals may make you think twice. Make sure you have a sturdy, weatherproof canvas bell tent for shelter.

The big rule for tents? That leads us to our next point…

Plastic Bags

Always leave your shoes outside of the tent in a plastic bag. You don’t want the dirt, dust, and mess your shoes bring into the tent. Even if it’s raining, leave your shoes outside.

Put your shoes in plastic bags. This not only keeps them dry but also keeps snakes or bugs from crawling inside them for warmth. There’s nothing quite like putting your foot into a snake-filled shoe!

Sleeping Bag

You’ll also need the right sleeping bag. This is where your research also comes in handy.

What type of camping are you doing? Will you be in hot areas or cold?

Sleeping bags have ratings for different types of weather. Pay attention when you’re buying your bag so you’ll get the right bag for the type of weather in which you’ll camp.

To save space, you don’t need a fancy camping pillow. Before you go to bed, stuff a t-shirt with a few clothes and you’ve got a pillow.

Packing Cubes

Packing cubes make your life easier by separating your stuff into cubes. If you’ve ever pulled everything out of your pack looking for that last pair of clean underwear, you’ll understand!

Instead, use different size cubes for storage inside your pack. You can tell by the size of the cube what’s in it, saving you time and energy searching for your stuff.

Knife and Multi-Tool

A Swiss Army Knife is a good example of a knife and multi-tool. It’s full of helpful camping tools all in one small, easy-to-carry package.

There are many different types, some bigger than others. A standard Swiss Army Knife or multi-tool has 1-2 knife blades, a can opener, a corkscrew, toothpick, tweezers, and even a small wood saw.

This handy little tool is a real lifesaver and saves on space. Speaking of lifesavers…

Lifestraw Filter

A Lifestraw filter can save your life if you run out of water and need to use the local stream. This little straw filters out 99% of common parasites and bacteria that can make you sick. It’s the ultimate in hiking supplies.

Take the Lifestraw on your day trips away from your campsite on the off-chance you run out of water and need to use a local source.

Goat Ties

Goat Ties are easy-to-use and versatile. Once you’ve used them you’ll wonder how you ever got along without them!

Are you tired of tangled bungee cords, rope, and tie-downs? You’re going to love these ties. These ties are nylon-covered, triple-braided strong wire that holds up to 500 pounds.

Easily twist them into place to secure your belongings. These ties won’t fray like bungee cords or rope.

Paracord Bracelet

This handy little bracelet is great for camping. It’s a fully-stocked bracelet for your wrist.

It’s 12 feet of sturdy paracord with a compass, knife, fire-starter, and emergency whistle.

First-Aid Kit

You should always have a first-aid kit in any vehicle you drive, and taking one camping is a must. You can make one yourself or find them ready-made in any camping store.

A few essentials for your kit:

  • Antiseptic
  • Antibiotic cream
  • Adhesive bandages
  • Thermometer
  • Emergency blanket
  • Aspirin/ibuprofen
  • Scissors
  • Gauze

Take your first-aid kit when you go hiking away from your campsite. If you have any medical conditions, stock your kit with extra medications in case you end up staying longer than anticipated.

Hydration Pack

Hydration is a must when camping, especially when you’re hiking. Get an easy-to-carry hydration pack for your back and remember to sip often. Dehydration and heat stroke are serious, so never let yourself get to that point.

Headlamp Light with Red Setting

A headlamp light is a small flashlight that fits around your head and sits on your forehead. This is a must for nighttime around the campsite. Make sure you get one with a red setting.

Why red? The red light doesn’t attract bugs the way a regular bright white light does.

You’ll be so glad you have this when the sun goes down. It keeps your hands free ensuring against trips and falls in the dark.

Don’t forget a few regular flashlights and batteries too.

Solar-Powered Lantern

Some campsites ban fire of any kind during dry months which also means a ban on regular lanterns. That’s where a solar-powered lantern comes in handy!

These lanterns don’t require battery changes or electricity. Put them in a sunny spot during the day and have plenty of light at night!
