Top 5 Most Anticipated Golf Events in 2022

Every city wants a PGA or European Tour event, but there’s only so much time.  The PGA Tour already has 48 events for 2022, while the European Tour currently has 42 events across 25 countries.

With such a crowded schedule, it’s difficult to pick the biggest events, but there are a few dates you’ll want to mark in your calendar. Here are the top 5 most anticipated golf events of 2022.

The Masters

The Masters is the biggest tournament in the USA, held from the 4th to the 10th of April in

Augusta, Georgia. The Masters is the only one of the four majors to be played at the same location every year and is steeped in tradition.

Winning the green jacket is a major achievement in men’s golf. No matter where else you’ve won, getting into the cloakroom at Augusta National is golf’s version of the Hall of Fame.

US PGA Championship

The US PGA Championship will be held from the 2nd to the 5th of June in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Unlike the Masters, the US PGA Championship moves around, allowing more fans to get involved.

Winning the PGA Championship comes with a major purse and the right to play in the major events for 5 years, with a PGA Championship berth for life.  Underdogs frequently do well, so the tournament is very exciting.

Wondering where to look for event tickets? Then you’ll want to hurry to get your tickets because Majors sell out fast.

US Open Brookline

The US Open will run from the16th to the 19th of May, in Brookline, Massachusetts. The US Open is a major tournament for the PGA and the European Tour. It’s been played since 1895, making it one of the oldest golf tournaments.

Scoring is difficult at the US Open because you need long, accurate drives to do well. It rewards a different kind of champion than the PGA Championship and is exciting in its own way.

The US Open is open to amateurs with a handicap of less than 1.5. Both males and females can play, which makes the field very diverse. Although amateurs and pros will need to qualify or win another major tournament to enter, theoretically any good player could win.

The 150th Open Championship

The 150th Open Championship will be played from the 10th to the 17th of July at St Andrews in Scotland.  The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews is one of the oldest golf clubs in the world.

Scots love to boast that they invented golf. This tournament is filled with all of the pomp and properness that only the British can manage.

US Women’s Open

The US Women’s Open will be held from the 2nd to the 5th of June at Southern Pines in North Carolina.  Although women are welcome at PGA tournament events, the women’s tour is also heating up.

The US Women’s Open promises to be one of the most-covered sporting news events of 2022.
